Randy Houser will perform alongside Riley Green at The Pinnacle in Nashville on Friday, Oct. 30. The show is part of The Champions professional bass fishing tournament, hosted by World Bass Enterprises. The event takes place on Old Hickory Lake. A record $3.25 million purse is at stake, with the winner receiving $1.25 million.
Houser, a Mississippi native who grew up fishing for bluegill, catfish and bass, said he is excited to see how far competitive bass fishing has come. He noted that top anglers from the Bassmaster Elite Series and Major League Fishing's Bass Pro Tour will compete in the event. He compared the difficulty of becoming a successful professional angler to making it as a professional golfer. The comparison cites the skill, sponsorships and resources required. Houser believes Nashville is the perfect place to showcase the sport's growth due to the strong synergy between country music and bass fishing. He has spent time fishing Old Hickory Lake himself. He expects The Champions to draw a significant crowd for both the concerts and the competition. Houser said he thinks there will be more fans than expected. This includes attendance at The Pinnacle and at the lake during weigh-ins.
In an exclusive interview with OutKick OutDoors, Houser also shared his lifelong love of fishing. He said that when he gets off the tour bus, he is literally looking for some water to get on. He spends a lot of time bonefishing in the Bahamas. There, he enjoys fly fishing for bonefish and permit, particularly in the winter. Houser said his connection to the water stems from all the time he spent on it as a kid. He shares this passion with his wife and children, who frequently join him on the water.
One of his most memorable experiences was a three-day bonefishing trip to Blackfly Lodge in the Bahamas with the Navy SEAL Foundation. He spent time alongside active and retired Navy SEALs. It was priceless, he said, to hear personal stories from them in a relaxed setting. Houser said he is a huge supporter of military families and personnel. He will remember that trip forever.
Houser is also looking forward to performing with Green, whom he considers a good friend. The two have toured together but have not had much time for fishing lately due to busy schedules. They plan to do some hunting together once the weather cools down. Houser gets to bring his children to the show, something he said does not happen very often. He sees it as a fitting opportunity to celebrate how far the sport has come while sharing the experience with his family.
