Mark Warner, Democrat of Virginia, put the question of media accountability in focus Thursday night following President Donald Trump's roughly 25-minute White House address on election security.
Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told Dokoupil he was embarrassed that networks like CBS carried Trump's claims as news rather than as a "rehash of falsehoods." Dokoupil held his ground, arguing CBS had brought Warner on specifically to provide scrutiny and had run fact-checking and analysis throughout its coverage.
The exchange and what Warner demanded Warner pressed that it was "incumbent" on Dokoupil and responsible journalists to challenge claims he described as falsehoods.
