Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) announced on October 19, 2026, that it has secured contract awards totaling approximately $550 million for two of its ultra-deepwater drillships in the U.S. Gulf. The company, based in Steinhausen, Switzerland, stated that these fixtures represent firm contract backlog for its Deepwater Proteus and Deepwater Conqueror units.
The Deepwater Proteus was awarded a ten-well contract with an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. This estimated 700-day campaign is expected to contribute approximately $325 million to the company's backlog. The work is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2027, serving as a direct continuation of the rig's current U.S. Gulf contract.
The second award involves the Deepwater Conqueror, which was contracted for a five-well campaign with an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. The estimated 450 days of work are expected to add approximately $225 million to the backlog, excluding mobilization fees. This program is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2027, continuing directly from the rig's current operations in Equatorial Guinea.
Transocean operates a fleet of 27 mobile offshore drilling units, which includes 20 ultra-deepwater floaters and seven harsh environment floaters. The company specializes in technically demanding sectors of the global offshore drilling business, with a focus on ultra-deepwater and harsh environment services. Management noted that forward-looking statements regarding these contracts are subject to inherent uncertainties, including fluctuations in oil and gas prices, exploration success, and operational hazards.
The announcement also references risks associated with the proposed business combination with Valaris Limited, a Bermuda-incorporated company. Transocean advised that actual results may vary materially from those indicated due to factors such as customer actions, international operation risks, and global supply and demand dynamics for oil and gas. Investors are reminded that the company disclaims any obligation to update forward-looking statements except as required by law.
