Co-hosts of the daytime talk show "The View" expressed doubt on Friday regarding former Vice President Kamala Harris's potential candidacy for president in 2028, urging the Democratic Party to look toward other contenders. The comments followed a Tuesday interview in which Harris told podcaster Keke Palmer that she had not yet decided whether to run for the office.
Ana Navarro, a co-host of the program, stated that she had spoken with Harris about the lingering impact of the 2024 election loss. Navarro noted that many women remain "scarred" by the fact that both Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost to President Donald Trump. Navarro's remarks highlighted a specific grievance among female voters regarding the party's recent electoral performance.
Guest host Raven-Symone addressed the question of whether a Black woman could be elected president, responding, "Not in America." She cited data from the days following former President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 race, stating that online platforms saw racist content directed at Harris increase by 525% and misogynistic content rise by 2,328%. Raven-Symone added that the United States is not as progressive as it perceives itself to be, pointing to other countries that have better records for women in office.
Sara Haines, another co-host, argued that Harris is not the right candidate if the Democrats wish to win. Haines pointed out that a 2028 campaign would mark Harris's third appearance on a presidential ballot, following her early exit in a previous primary and her role as Biden's running mate in 2024. Haines listed several alternative candidates she believes could provide the "fresh energy" the party seeks, including Pete Buttigieg, Mark Kelly, Josh Shapiro, and Wes Moore. She also identified Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan as a viable future candidate.
Dan Turrentine, a Democratic strategist and co-host of "The Huddle" podcast, offered a contrasting perspective to Fox News Digital. Turrentine stated that America is ready for a female president and suggested that the two women who lost in recent cycles were politically flawed from the start. He argued that Harris faces an authenticity problem due to perceived ideological inconsistency, unlike candidates such as Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump who maintained consistent platforms over multiple runs. Turrentine also noted that Harris has been absent from public discourse for the past two years, a pattern he described as consistent with caution and indecision. Despite these challenges, Turrentine said that if Harris runs and wins the primary, she would enter the general election with a decent chance in a divided country.
Fox News Digital contacted Harris's office but did not receive an immediate response to questions about her 2028 plans.
