OpenAI is finalizing a funding round of up to $30 billion that values the company at $1.25 trillion, according to people familiar with the confidential deal. Investors from the United Arab Emirates are leading the effort alongside Coatue. The stated valuation excludes any new capital raised during the process.

The San Francisco-based company informed investors on Thursday that it aims to secure signatures by the end of next week, though the final size of the round remains under determination. The financing is being characterized as an opportunistic bridge ahead of a potential initial public offering. Sarah Friar, OpenAI's chief financial officer, has told employees that a listing is likely to occur in 2027. OpenAI has filed confidentially to go public.

In parallel with the equity raise, OpenAI is negotiating a commercial agreement to secure additional computing capacity from the UAE. This arrangement is intended to provide extra computing power as the company expands its artificial intelligence operations.

The fundraising is taking place amid volatility in technology markets, with recent jitters surrounding CoreWeave and concerns about future financing conditions as interest rates rise. Anthropic's expected IPO is also anticipated to serve as another test of investor appetite for the sector.
