Apple has opened preorders for the HomePod Mini 2. The refreshed smart speaker is priced at $149. It is scheduled to launch on Friday, October 30th. Customers can purchase the device through Apple immediately. This release marks the first significant update to the compact speaker line in nearly six years.
The new unit features the S10 chip. That processor previously debuted in the Apple Watch Series 10. Apple states that the speaker will support Siri AI capabilities following a future software update. The hardware also enables new integrations within the Apple ecosystem. HomePod Mini 2 units can form part of a four-speaker surround sound system when paired with the new Apple TV 4K. Additionally, the speakers can function as audio output for Mac computers, provided those machines support Wi-Fi 6E.
