Acumen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABOS) expects to report topline results from its ALTITUDE-AD Phase 2 clinical study in November 2026. The trial investigates sabirnetug (ACU193) for the treatment of early Alzheimer's disease.
Daniel O'Connell, Chief Executive Officer of Acumen, stated that the company remains encouraged by the potential for sabirnetug to become a treatment of choice due to its differentiated benefit-risk profile.
ALTITUDE-AD is a 3-arm Phase 2 study enrolling 542 participants with 180 individuals per arm. The trial compares two active doses of sabirnetug (35 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg) administered intravenously every four weeks against a placebo over an 18-month double-blinded period. Topline results are expected to include the Integrated Alzheimer's Disease Rating Scale (iADRS), the primary clinical efficacy endpoint, along with key secondary endpoints such as the Clinical Dementia Rating Sum of the Boxes (CDR-SB). The company also expects to report safety measures, including adverse event rates and amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) rates, as well as key biomarkers.
Acumen also provided its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. As of September 30, 2026, the company held $78.6 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities. This balance decreased from $110.2 million as of June 30, 2026. Management expects these funds to support current clinical and operational activities into early 2027.
Research and development expenses for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, were $21.1 million, down from $22.0 million in the same period of 2025. The decrease was primarily attributed to reductions in manufacturing, materials costs, and contract research organization costs associated with the ALTITUDE-AD clinical trial. These savings were partially offset by increased spending for the Enhanced Brain Delivery (EBD) program. General and administrative expenses rose to $4.7 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared to $4.5 million in the prior year period.
Loss from operations for the quarter was $25.8 million, a decrease from $26.5 million in the third quarter of 2025. The net loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, was $25.4 million, compared to a net loss of $26.5 million in the prior year period.
In addition to the ALTITUDE-AD readout, Acumen is targeting the submission of an Investigational New Drug (IND) filing for a lead clinical candidate in its EBD program in mid-2027. The EBD program combines a blood-brain barrier-penetrating technology with an AβO-selective therapeutic antibody. Sabirnetug has been granted Fast Track designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of early Alzheimer's disease.
Acumen Pharmaceuticals is headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts. The company develops novel therapeutics targeting toxic soluble amyloid beta oligomers (AβOs). It is currently collaborating with JCR Pharmaceuticals to develop an EBD therapy for Alzheimer's disease utilizing transferrin-receptor-targeting technology. The company also investigates a subcutaneous formulation of sabirnetug using Halozyme's ENHANZE drug delivery technology.
