Aaron Glenn says he forgot to call timeout before Packers won in overtime

With approximately 50 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Packers faced fourth down and 10 from midfield after the Jets limited them to a five-yard completion on third down. Glenn held timeouts but chose not to use them. Instead of forcing a punt and giving the Jets offense a chance to score, he allowed the Packers to retain possession. Glenn later stated that he did not think of using the timeout at that moment.

Glenn told reporters he had not considered using the timeout at that point at all. When pressed for his reasoning, he said he wanted to review the play but believed the Packers were attempting a simple play or would take a penalty. He suggested they either executed that easy play or took the penalty.

The Packers did take a delay of game penalty, which resulted in a 10-second runoff leaving two seconds on the clock. They then attempted a fourth-down pass, which resulted in a sack by Jordan Love, ending regulation. If Glenn had called a timeout, the Jets would have had roughly 50 seconds to force a punt and potentially drive into field goal range.

Glenn argued that forcing a punt would have put the Jets in a backed-up position. He claimed that if Green Bay punted, it would have left New York in a difficult situation right there, which he cited as his reason for not stopping the clock.

Critics pointed out that this logic ignored other possibilities, such as a blocked punt or a dynamic return by the Jets' punt returner. By not calling the timeout, Glenn ensured his offense had no final play to win the game in regulation.
