Verizon's $1B Google dark-fiber deal opens a bigger AI pipeline (VZ)

A dark-fiber contract worth more than $1 billion to link Google data centers is the opening deal under Verizon Communications' (VZ) new "AI Connect" initiative, disclosed on the company's second-quarter 2026 earnings call.

Chief Executive Dan Schulman projected that additional AI-related agreements, expected before year-end, would collectively be "worth multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years." The next confirmable event is that announcement.
