An arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, issued by Turkey, is now in focus for anyone tracking political risk across the region.
Ankara is also pursuing an Interpol Red Notice against the Israeli leader. The next confirmable milestone is whether Interpol moves on that request. The warrant targets a sitting head of government.
That is an uncommon step in international practice, and the bid for a Red Notice adds an international enforcement dimension to what is already an acute bilateral dispute. Interpol Red Notices are not extradition orders.
They are requests to member countries' law enforcement to locate and provisionally arrest a named individual pending extradition proceedings. Member states are not obligated to comply.
