Sber to accept USDT and Ether as loan collateral as Russia opens crypto trading

Russia's largest bank, Sber, plans to accept USDT and Ether alongside Bitcoin as loan collateral as Russia introduces regulated crypto trading under new legislation.

The expansion puts $USDT, $ETH, and $BTC in focus within the new framework. Sber has also signaled doubts about demand for the digital ruble. Of the three assets, USDT is the most notable addition from a risk standpoint.

It is a dollar-pegged stablecoin, and its inclusion extends the collateral base beyond native crypto into synthetic dollar exposure.

That is a different positioning call from Bitcoin or Ether, and one that will shape how institutional participants read the lending market as the regime takes shape. The digital ruble thread pulls in another direction.
