Sanders names crypto in Democratic money critique as Michigan primary tips left

Progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed's narrow Michigan Senate primary defeat of Representative Haley Stevens, confirmed Wednesday after the state finished counting votes, handed the Democratic left a visible win and brought Senator Bernie Sanders' explicit critique of crypto and AI industry money in party politics to the foreground.

El-Sayed campaigned alongside far-left YouTube streamer Hasan Piker, and his path to the general election now runs through a centrist Democrat warning that the left's positioning is handing Republicans an opening.

The intraparty break The friction became public on two fronts this week.

Democratic strategist James Carville said on Fox News Sunday that he would not remain in the same party as Piker, predicting that one of them would leave.
