California Governor Gavin Newsom stepped into a political backlash Tuesday after posting a chart aimed at President Donald Trump's housing record.
The chart tracked the income required to qualify for a median-priced home from 2005 through 2026 and showed its steepest climb between 2021 and 2024, the Biden years.
Newsom, a potential 2028 presidential contender, shared the post on X alongside a report describing U.S. homes as "now the most unaffordable in history" and addressed the data to Trump directly.
The response on the platform was sharp. Meteorologist Chris Martz wrote that housing prices had skyrocketed under Biden's presidency and that Newsom appeared not to know how to read graphs.
