NavigateAI, the AI startup Eric Wu has been building since departing Opendoor in 2022, emerged from stealth in May with $25 million in backing from Elad Gil, Khosla Ventures, and homebuilder Lennar (LEN).
The company is deploying hands-free AI copilots via smartphones and Meta Platforms' (META) AI glasses, delivering real-time guidance to construction workers in the field.
The pitch targets a labor shortage that the company frames as severe enough to put individual data center projects in need of 4,000 to 5,000 workers each. The Lennar angle is the part worth pressing on.
A homebuilder with direct operational exposure to construction labor is a fundamentally different class of backer than a financial sponsor making a thematic bet.
