Lake Tahoe fee proposal would raise visit costs at beaches, campgrounds, and trailheads

Forest Service is considering new and higher recreation fees across the Lake Tahoe Basin, a move that would put a price tag on several sites that visitors currently access for free.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, operating under the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has proposed changes covering campgrounds, beaches, trailheads, and other recreation areas in the basin.

Public comments are open through Sept.

What the proposal would cost visitors Kiva Beach and the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, both currently free, would begin charging $10 per vehicle under the proposal, with that figure eventually rising to $15.
