GoPro acquisition ends decade-long decline with $285 million cash deal

A $285 million all-cash takeout of GoPro by an AI hardware group sent shares jumping as much as 80% on the session.

The deal closes a chapter that had been running against the action camera maker for the better part of a decade and hands the brand to a buyer with a different thesis about where hardware value sits from here.

The magnitude of the share move is the first thing to price in. A near-doubling on a clean cash offer says the equity was priced deep into distress, not recovery.

At $285 million, the total consideration reflects how far the business had traveled from its peak years, when GoPro defined the action camera category before smartphones reframed the consumer calculus.
