Some 2023 Framework Laptop 13 units running AMD Ryzen 7040-series chips are inoperable after owners installed BIOS version 3.20 for Ryzen 7040-series mainboards, a July release still hosted on Framework's download page.
Affected machines stall on the update screen on both Windows and Linux, with no recovery path reported. Framework says it is working to address the problem. The cross-platform failure points to the BIOS itself.
That rules out a Windows or Linux configuration as the variable, and it leaves owners already stuck with no obvious software-side workaround.
Warranty status determines who pays Framework's community forums documented the failures and the differing outcomes. Owners with boards inside the one-year warranty reported the company offered replacement mainboards.
