The legislation, which sought to establish a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency industry, failed to secure the necessary votes, triggering a broad sell-off across the market.
As of 4:33 PM on September 15, Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) had fallen 4.7% to $75,758.66. Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) experienced a steeper drop of 7.6%, trading at $2,398.80, while Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) decreased by 6.5% to $96.71.
The total cryptocurrency market capitalization was down 3.7% at $2.68 trillion.
