Bitcoin, ethereum open into rate-hike risk after August jobs print

Friday's August jobs report lifted Fed rate-hike expectations heading into this week, and $BTC and $ETH each opened higher Monday before giving back ground by mid-morning.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) started at $80,351.40 on September 7, 2026, up 0.7% from Sunday but below Friday's open, and was trading at $79,349.91 by 9:41 a.m.

Ethereum (ETH-USD) opened at $2,514.80, a 1.4% Sunday gain and its strongest open since August 22, before easing to $2,497.60 at the same timestamp.

The jobs print, described in market notes as "bombastic," drew attention toward the Fed's two-day meeting later this month.
