Australia forward Nestory Irankunda called referee Felix Zwayer a "stinker" after the Socceroos fell 2-0 to the United States on Friday, a defeat that leaves Australia second in the group with three points.
Manager Tony Popovic and assistant coach Paul Okon joined the criticism, questioning both Zwayer's foul decisions and a VAR-confirmed second goal that Australia believed should not have counted.
Irankunda and Popovic Pile On Zwayer Irankunda was direct in his assessment after the final whistle, telling reporters the German official was "giving every call to the USA" and failing to apply the same standard to both sides.
"He was having a stinker today," Irankunda said, adding that at this level, referees must acknowledge there are two teams on the field.
